Shifting Perspectives 2005-2013
Shifting Perspectives returns to the South Bank with a spectacular exhibition celebrating the last eight years of extraordinary work. Shifting Perspectives was born out of a desire to provide an alternative to the medical, often negative, mainstream images of people with Down’s syndrome. In 2003 a small group of photographers, who all had children with Down’s syndrome came together to create an exhibition for Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week. Shifting Perspectives found a home with the Down’s Syndrome Association who helped secure funding from GlaxoSmithKline and since the first exhibition at the gallery@oxo in 2005 it has grown into a global art and awareness project which has reached tens of thousands of people. Shifting Perspectives has travelled throughout the UK and Ireland, it has visited 4 continents and 7 different countries. The exhibition has gained recognition for its contribution to the field of photography and it has successfully challenged attitudes towards people with Down’s syndrome. Come and celebrate all aspects of living with Down’s syndrome.
