Colombo Street community and sports centre

The Colombo Street community & sports centre is a local social enterprise and charity governed by Coin Street Centre Trust.  The centre, in SE1, provides high quality health, recreation and leisure facilities at an affordable price to residents and employees in the boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark.

In 2010 the centre benefitted from an investment of £650,000 in a new 90-station gym, improved exercise studios and changing facilities. Gym membership is offered at £19.95 per month.

Over the past ten years Coin Street has helped turn around the fortunes of the Colombo Centre from the verge of bankruptcy to becoming a viable business with considerably expanded facilities and community use.

In 2004 Colombo Centre opened four outdoor sports pitches.  The opening followed a 4-year local campaign which ended with Lambeth and Southwark Councils transferring 2 derelict sites to the Colombo Centre at nil cost, and £500,000 being raised from The Big Lottery, London Marathon Charitable Trust, a Southwark Council section 106 fund and Waterloo Project Board SRB.

The 4 courts are on Hatfields SE1: 2 are state-of-the-art 7-a-side FIFA approved synthetic turf football pitches, 2 are multi-sports pitches designed for tennis, basketball, volleyball and netball.  The pitches are available for hire without charge to local community groups every evening and throughout the weekend with special rates for local schools.
