In 1993 the Boards of Coin Street Community Builders, Coin Street Secondary Housing Co-operative and Coin Street Centre Trust agreed a set of aims and objectives to guide their activities. These 'Group' objectives are:
General
(i) To ensure that in all of its initiatives the Group recognises the multi-cultural character of London and seeks to implement the Group's equal opportunities policies.
(ii) To encourage the involvement of local residents and tenants in planning and implementing specific initiatives and to ensure that in all of its activities the Coin Street Group is sensitive to their needs and aspirations.
(iii) To promote, support and encourage the establishment of housing co-operatives, community development trusts and other innovative ways of meeting housing and community needs.
(iv) To work with others to create a healthy and balanced London economy which supports its residential communities effectively and provides a wide range of employment opportunities for London residents.
The South Bank
(v) To work with others to promote and improve the South Bank as an area in which to live, to work, and as an area to visit.
(vi) To work with others to improve the management and amenity of public areas in and around the South Bank.
(vii) To oppose developments which are likely to have an adverse effect on the environment or the economy of the South Bank.
(viii) To improve health care services and facilities in and around the South Bank.
(ix) To extend the range of leisure and recreational facilities in and around the South Bank.
(x) To extend the range of shopping facilities in and around the South Bank.
(xi) To improve educational and childcare provision in and around the South Bank.
The Thames
(xii) To protect and enhance the River Thames as an amenity for those living in, working in or visiting London and to promote its use for recreation and water-borne transport.
The Coin Street Site
(xiii) To develop the Coin Street area in accordance with Coin Street Community Builders' covenants and the objectives of the Coin Street Group.
(xix) To assist Coin Street Secondary Housing Co-operative in developing affordable housing.
(xv) To ensure that developments in the Coin Street area are carried out to a high standard utilising the skills of contemporary designers and artists.
(xvi) To ensure that in the design, specification and management of its properties the Coin Street Group uses materials and practices which recognise the need to sustain the Earth’s resources.
(xvii) To ensure that in the design, specification and management of its properties the Coin Street Group is sensitive to the needs of those with disabilities.
(xviii) To ensure that property owned by the Coin Street Group is managed effectively and creatively in a manner which is sensitive to tenant’s needs and the objectives of the Coin Street Group.
(xix) To assist Coin Street Secondary Housing Co-operative in establishing effective and viable management services which offer good value for money and are sensitive to the needs of primary co-operatives.
Information and Training
(xx) To publicise the objectives and activities of the Coin Street Group and to support and assist organisations with similar objectives.
(xxi) To assist Coin Street Secondary Housing Co-operative in the provision of information and training to tenants and prospective tenants, to housing associations and statutory bodies, to the general public, and to other organisations and individuals.
(xxii) To assist in the provision of employment and enterprise training.
