Community programmes - volunteer opportunities at Colombo Street community and sport centre

Colombo street community & sports centre is a registered charity based in Southwark. It offers a range of health and fitness facilities and programmes including a newly refurbished 90 station gymnasium, studios and outdoor sports courts. There is a wide programme of community actvities for all ages providing affordable sessions for local people.

We are looking for a range of volunteers who are enthusiastic and energetic to help support several community and sports sessions delivered across both centres these are as follows:

Seniors sessions:  We are looking for volunteers to support the seniors sessions at the Colombo Centre. Sessions are focused on bowls, badminton and bingo; however we are looking to develop the programme and bring in some fresh ideas.
Times needed: Monday 2pm - 4pm, Wednesday 10am - 12midday, Thursday 2pm- 4pm

Football coaching:
We are looking for volunteers to help run the many free or accessible football sessions on Hatfields outdoor pitches. You will be required to help take the registers, supervise children and young peopleplus assist with training and matches.
(If you are a commited volunteer then you may be able to access training to become FA qualified).

Boys club: We are looking for volunteers to assist in the supervision of the sessions working closely with other members of staff and the young people. These sessions are for under 16’s to take part in non-contact boxing and 5-a-side football on Wednesday evenings. The session gives boys an opportunity to learn and develop their skills in a safe space as well as socialising with other local young people.Times needed: Wednesday 7 - 9pm

Friday night sports session: We are looking energetic volunteers to help run these busy sports sessions using the different spaces avaliable in the Colombo Centre and its facilities. Sports include badminton, basketball and dance sessions for different age groups , Sessions are open to all the family. Assistance is needed in helping to take registers, engaging people in the different sports and joining in with the games! Times needed: Friday 5pm – 8pm

Tennis coach: We are in need of volunteers to help with the weekend tennis sessions on Paris Gardens next to the Colombo Centre. The sessions are for young people under 18 years old to learn and improve their tennis skills. We need people to help out with coaching and supporting the running of sessions.(If you are a committed volunteer then you may be able to access training to become and LTA qualified volunteer). Times needed: Saturday and Sundays 12 - 2pm

Requirements
All volunteers will need to provide 2 references and have an interview with a member of staff. Volunteers that will be working with children, young people or older people will also need to be wiling to complete a CRB check. 
All volunteers will be required to:

  • complete a Volunteers application form & agreement listing two references
  • attend a short interview with a member of staff
  • Attend an induction and made aware of policies & procedures

All voluntary roles will be subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.
